Confirmation
At Faith, our youth attend two years of confirmation instruction. Traditionally, we have offered instruction in the 7th and 8th grade year with The Rite of Confirmation at the conclusion of the 8th grade year. Youth may instead attend in their 6th and 7th grade years and be confirmed at the end of seventh grade. Either way students receive two years of instruction.
Orientation Date
Parents, junior youth (6th-8th grade), and mentors are asked to attend an orientation meeting on Sunday, September 13 at 11:30a in the fellowship hall. Materials, workbooks, and schedules will be handed out and reviewed. Also, we will go over the schedule for junior youth events in the fall.
Confirmation Instruction
Instruction will continue to take place on Sunday morning. The structure of the confirmation instruction will be adjusted in the following way:
10:30a-11:30a The confirmands will meet for Mentoring Time
11:30-Noon The pastor will join the group for Instruction
The Mentoring Time will include discussion with an adult, all memory work exercises, lesson review questions, and supplemental material. I am asking that each week, one parent or the confirmand’s mentor attend with him or her. These sessions will be lead by a facilitator.
The value of this structure is to allow the confirmands to grow closer to their parents and mentors in the faith. Adults are asked to take turns attending. It will also eliminate the need for homework during the week.
Field Trips
In addition, we will take two confirmation field trips this year. The first, on Saturday, November 7th, connected to the first article of the creed, will be to the Creation Museum near Cincinnati. Confirmands, parents, siblings, and mentors are all encouraged to participate. We will leave at 8a on Saturday, have lunch at the museum, stop for dinner on the way home, and return to church at 8p.

The second field trip, connected to the Sacrament of the Altar, will be to several local churches in the spring. More details to come.
The Welcoming 2009- Jr. High Youth Rally
7th and 8th grade youth are invited to attend the District Youth Rally at Camp Lakeview on September 18-19.
The Rally will be a great time of inspiration, education, recreation, and association with other Lutheran youth from the area. The Rally is an intense 24 hours of various activities including guest speakers, Bible study, devotions, worship, outdoor activities, campfire songs and more.
We will meet at church on Friday evening at 5:30p to head out to Camp Lakeview in Seymour. We will return to Faith at 7:30p on Saturday. Pastor Riordan will chaperone this event.
Cost is $25, please let Pastor Riordan know by August 16 if you intend to go.
Confirmation Retreat
Our annual Confirmation Retreat will be held on the weekend of April 23-25. This retreat is for all confirmands. On Saturday evening of the retreat, parents, mentors and siblings are invited to join the confirmands for a cookout, group devotion, and outdoor worship service.
Confirmation Banquet
The confirmation banquet will be on Saturday, May 1st at 5:30p. This banquet is in honor of those who will be confirmed. It is hosted by the elders and the first year students and families.
The Rite of Confirmation
Our second year students will be confirmed on Sunday, May 2nd in the 9a church service.
